Pile Driving!  Contributor's Pick!
In order to retain active train traffic adjacent to the bays of the bridge where abutment rehabilitation is needed, sheeting must be driven. This is accomplished using 30-foot long, 14-inch deep, 1-1/2 ton steel beams, and 1-inch-thick steel plates between the beams. The crane is attached to a vibratory hammer--a 3500-pound vibrating weight that literally shakes the pile into the ground.
